Mt.Decoeli

Backcountry corner

spring is always good for skiing. once we went up to mt.decoeli in kluane national park to try our luck for spring corn. my good friend sarah decided to try backcountry skiing so i thought this was going to be a great trip. we had gorgeous sunny days but snow for some reason was hard and icy. skinning up was hard and going back down was even harder as ski edges would not hold at all. from header abow you can see that my friend was quite exhausted. even though it looks like she is on flat surface she is actually barely hanging on to some pretty steep hill. gravity and heavy wind were pulling her down and i was yelling at her with instructions what to do. plus i was taking photos of course (hahaha). it was intense but we got off the mountain ok. on the third day i asked her whether she wanted to ski some more. trying to smile, she said: yeah, towards the car please. i thought that was the end of her skiing career. two weeks ago she told me that she got an old pair of telemark skis. some people just never give up  :-)
